The Fraud review
The Fraud
A slower Smith. Worth it if you let it be.
7/104 / 5
The Fraud is a Zadie Smith novel that the reviews treat as a slower one, and they are right. I liked it once I stopped waiting for it to be White Teeth. It is historical, it has a long attention, and it is worth it if you let it be.The praise is the nineteenth-century case and the people around it. The complaint is pace, and a feeling that the book is more interested than you are, for a chapter or two. I had that feeling and then lost it. Borrow it if you are unsure. Buy it if you already trust her on a long leash.
